70 Years Harvard 1938-2008
The Harvard will always be fondly remembered as the cradle of many a young pilot's flying dreams. The Harvard, or T6 Texan as it is more commonly known, has been used to train military airmen throughout the world, and become affectionaly known as "the schoolmaster of the sky".
Not only is she one of the greatest classics of all time, but was also the SAAF's best recruting agent. The Harvard started service with the SAAF as a trainer in 1940 and remained operational until the end of 1995, representing 55 years of pilot and ground crew training, making SAAF one of the largest and most experienced operators of the Harvards in the world.
Thanks to the foresight of passionate South African aviators, the Harvard legacy will live on for all to enjoy, and characteristic rasp of this venerable machine and the memories will always fill our hearts.(adapted from the Harvard mug)
This is hard work keeping the Harvards and their heritage going and is very important for the history of the country and for the future. The Harvards and the pilots are the new friends of the Fairland Air Scouts and we hope to interact for years to come
Thank you to the pilots that keep this going. The flip in the Harvard was great, the best ever.
